
Tuition Levels
Novice
Tuition covers how to assemble the rod, lines and leaders. The grip and the stances for each cast are followed by the roll cast, the basic overhead cast with safety points and methods of playing and landing fish.
Basic knots and catch and release methods are taught. Basic entomology.
Improver
Following on from the novice level, tuition is given in the needs for and how to false cast. An increase in casting distance by shooting line and using the single haul technique is covered in depth.
How to cast with the wind from any direction is high on the agenda for both the roll cast and the overhead cast.
The use of different lines. Artificial fly types. Linking entomology to artificial flies.
Advanced
This final level covers the double haul technique for long distance casting and Spey casts using a single handed rod for use on rivers (if required).
Side casting and accuracy casting techniques and wading methods are practised.

Venues
Lakeside Fishery
This excellent water is situated in Ranskill, North Nottinghamshire.
The main advantage, apart from being stocked with good sized rainbow trout, is in having fishing platforms on each of its four sides. This enables students to learn how to cast with the wind from any direction. It is also friendly underfoot with paths leading to numerous casting platforms. Having good wheelchair access makes it suitable for disabled persons.
Barlow Trout Fishery
Situated at Barlow, North Derbyshire, between Sheffield and Chesterfield, the four trout lakes provide excellent fishing for both brown and rainbow trout. There is also a very challenging small brook flowing alongside the lakes.
Wheelchair access is good and food is available on site.
Thrybergh Reservoir
This long established day ticket trout fishery and Country Park is situated just east of Rotherham in South Yorkshire. It is ideal for learning the art of trout fishing.
There is wheelchair access and food is available.
Driffield Beck
This beautiful East Yorkshire chalkstream is said to be equal in quality to the southern UK chalkstreams but not as expensive.
